There are moments in sport that transcend the result itself, and Ryan Garner’s remarkable victory at St Mary’s Stadium was certainly one of them.
As someone who has followed Ryan’s journey closely, I could not be prouder to see him achieve a lifelong ambition by becoming the WBC Interim Super Featherweight Champion in front of his hometown supporters. On behalf of everyone at F One Technologies, I would like to congratulate Ryan on an outstanding performance against Michael Magnesi in what was a truly unforgettable night for Southampton sport.
From the moment Ryan walked into a packed St Mary’s Stadium, the atmosphere was incredible. More than 10,000 fans had come together to support one of Southampton’s own, creating an occasion that felt special long before the opening bell rang.
Ryan rose to that occasion magnificently.
Over 12 hard-fought rounds, he delivered a disciplined, determined and highly professional performance against an experienced and respected opponent. Known as “The Piranha”, Ryan set the tempo from the outset, taking the fight to Magnesi and repeatedly coming out on top during a series of intense exchanges.
When the final bell sounded, there was a sense throughout the stadium that we had witnessed something special. The judges confirmed that feeling, awarding Ryan a unanimous victory with scorecards of 116-112, 118-110 and 119-109.
The result not only secured the WBC Interim Super Featherweight Championship but also positioned Ryan as the number one contender for a future showdown with reigning WBC champion O’Shaquie Foster.
What impressed me most was not just Ryan’s talent inside the ring, but the professionalism, resilience and determination he demonstrated throughout the entire journey. To see a local athlete realise a childhood dream in front of family, friends and thousands of hometown supporters was genuinely inspiring.
At F One Technologies, we have been honoured to support Ryan, and watching him deliver a world-class performance on the biggest stage of his career was a proud moment for everyone associated with our business.
Following the fight, Ryan spoke passionately about what the occasion meant to him, thanking Southampton FC, his supporters and everyone involved in bringing the event to life. It was clear that competing for a world title in Southampton was more than just another fight, it was the fulfilment of a dream.
While this victory marks a significant milestone, I have no doubt that Ryan’s ambitions stretch even further. His sights are firmly set on the biggest opportunities in the division, and this latest achievement feels like the beginning of an exciting new chapter rather than the end of a journey.
Beyond Ryan’s personal success, the event also showcased Southampton’s ability to host major sporting occasions on a world-class scale. The city, the venue and the fans all played their part in creating a memorable night that will be talked about for years to come.
